hustling 2019

2019.jpg

2018 was demanding for it was intertwined with many accomplishments and disappointments that brought forth many mixed emotions. i can’t deny i had stretched myself too thin more times than i’d like, and the year had flown by before i knew it. i was overloaded at work where i experienced many influxes of workload; but through that, i had earned my stripes and established myself as a lead. outside of work, my play was also action-packed. i took a step back from taekwondo, but have the intention to step back in once my tricks and flips are ready. i wouldn’t say i had a particularly healthy year; not having escaped the injuries – this time being my shoulder. i lost sight of my fitness at times, but still kept it within reason. with all the successes and setbacks of the past twelve months, i had a lot of take backs knowing i had grown and proved that i could handle myself in uncomfortable situations. looking ahead, 2019 will be a year of hustle where i’ll be chasing some pretty ambitious goals i had set for myself. again, i expect myself to continue grinding and hustling for everything i’ve always wanted. i’m committed to investing the next three hundred and sixty five days to become the best version of myself

i experienced the best and worst of days in 2018, but nothing i couldn’t overcome. the darkest moments stung and the brightest moments shone, but above all, i managed to stay afloat. as 2018 departs, i’m looking ahead and expecting a lot out of myself in 2019

day 1979 – casino countdown

i still have a hard time believing 2018 gas flown by so quickly. i didn’t get to countdown last year so making up for it this year at river rock. the whole casino was packed with people trying to get their last gambling in before the new year. the hype happened at the foyer where the dj blasted music and threw confetti while two performers were suspended from the ceiling. after the countdown, i also did some gambling at the craps tables before calling it a night while getting my last bubble tea in for the year

day 1978 – taekwondo clan

img_20200130_2040015769276745066230080.jpgso happy to have another one of our meet ups while he comes back for a visit. i miss training, traveling and hanging out together with this gang. the good old days when we were altogether self training for every upcoming competition, getting through promotion tests and winging demostrations. we’ve all grown up and so much as changed, but it’s always going to be the same group that went through thick and thin. taekwondo would never have been the same without this gang. i hope next time we meet up, everyone’s back in town for good. i also hope one day we’ll be able to run a studio of our own, taekwondo family

day 1977 – big screen television

img_20200130_2040208310429405958525686.jpgthe delivery guys brought the new television my parents ordered on boxing day. after installation, we realized we need to buy a new tv stand that’s wider because the existing stand wasn’t built to hold monstrous screens like this. i never once thought my living room would have something almost cinematic. it totally redefined the definition of big screen television. now imagine reclining my seat to watch all the movies and sports games on high definition

day 1976 – eleiko platform

img_20200130_2040103655076142468907256.jpgi’m pleasantly shocked when i walked into city square steve nash to find two new sparking platforms with sets of bumper plates neatly lined up. i only wish brentwood would also replace some of their broken bumper plates. it’s unacceptable to not even have one full set of bumper plates in the whole gym. i stayed pretty patient for five months waiting for my shoulder to heal and now i’m itching to get back into olympic lifting. when not in motion, the ligament doesn’t bother me, but got to be extra careful and not go ham too quickly. i’ve wanted to refine my techniques and this might be the year to do it

day 1975 – paypower

img_20200130_2039297709034684495307270.jpgusing the mastercard paypower i got from star performer spin the wheel to help out my extensive hobby of online shopping. even though i didn’t physically join the boxing day mall crowds, i bought a few things and spent quite a bit of money. some were impulsive buys but i needed more tech savvy things. i must contain myself after the holiday season is over and until i can recover for the damage of all these sales

day 1974 – aquaman

img_20200130_2039529083338302767768681.jpgwatching movies in theatres nowadays is so pricey. i don’t catch many movies in theatre on their first week of showing, but aquaman was too good to pass up. i liked that the background story was well presented. i’d rank this one up there with the rest of the marvel movies. bumble bee, spiderman and grinch are next on my list to watch or stream. note to self that boxing day shopping isn’t only a morning, it’s a full day of craziness especially metrotown

day 1973 – annual turkey feast

img_20200130_2040291641499793334398794.jpganother year has gone by and it’s time for another tong’s family turkey feast on christmas day. this year features the main event juicy turkey stuffed with fried rice, with baked pork loin, cod and cilantro, baked potato crisps, grilled asparagus and choice of wine pairing. so many dishes on the table we almost ran out of real estate. i didn’t get to taste every dish before i got way too full. everything tasted really good and of course the turkey was my favourite of all. i think it’s safe to say i need to go on a cut after the holiday celebrations

day 1972 – stick and pucking

winter break and off days are the best time to sleep in and catch up on what i’ve lacked all year round. it’s also a good time to put in some extra practice at the stick and puck sessions i wouldn’t otherwise have been able to make. getting a free pass to christmas eve afternoon stick and puck session to work on some shots, pivots and stick handling sounded like a good choice

day 1971 – fried chicken

img_20200130_2039418665489946250221874.jpgit’s crazy to say that it’s my first time eating fried chicken since highschool. i normally refrain from fried foods; i made an exception today not only because it is the holiday week, but also because i’ve never tasted the korean fried chicken everyone boasts about. it tasted delicious as expected, and the crunchiness between my teeth was also to a high level of satisfaction. i don’t know when i’ll have it again, so i’ll savour every lasting flavour of the fried chicken dipped into the zesty sweet and sour sauce
